Daniel Merriweather came to my attention, back in June of 2009, when we featured him in our Weekly Jukebox. It has felt like a long wait for his full release of Love & War, but it was certainly worth the patience. The wait has felt very much like when I stand in front of the microwave watching my Hot Pocket cook. Watching it cook won’t make it heat faster, but I still believe it will. Such is the case with Daniel Merriweather. Over the past year I have heard leaked tracks and then the initial UK release before the release in the United States. I now find my hunger for his music fully satisfied.
Merriweather is yet another artist from Australia to recently hit the global mainstream. He distinguishes himself by rocking an old-soul R&B vibe with a contemporary twist. He is quickly establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in the new soul movement because of his powerfully smooth vocals and hip hop inspired track arrangements. Merriweather has become a mainstay on the UK charts and has made endless appearances in television programs across the globe. Recent high profile appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and on the Ellen DeGeneres Show will only ensure that his tracks will hit high on the charts.
Love & War is packed full of great music. The lead single “Change” features Wale and is one of those songs that has been stuck in my head for months now. The new tracking single “Red” is getting a ton of play and you will understand why when you take a listen. “Water And A Flame” features the amazing Adele and is a beautifully crafted song about lost love. “Chainsaw” has a throwback feel and is one of the best metaphors for love that I have heard in a while. The entire album has been cooking for a while and is now ready for you to cut into. Enjoy!

If you love the sound of Daniel Merriweather you need to check out Robin Thicke!
Mat Kearney – “Closer to Love”
I had the pleasure of working a gig with Mat back in 2007. I have been a long time fan of his music and his new release “City Of Black & White” does not disappoint. The first single “Closer to Love” is getting a lot of radio play in major markets this summer. If you are not familiar with Mat you need to get acquainted right now! And don’t stress over the fact that he spells his first name with only one “T”. I will give you a “T” later if you like.

Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears – “Sugarfoot”
This track is hott! (There you go, your missing “T” courtesy of Kearney.) If these Texas natives are not on you music radar, well your radar needs to be repaired. These guys are bringing raw, funky, new blues on to the scene in a major way. Their music is off the charts. And in my opinion, they have one of the best band names out there right now.

Daniel Merriweather – “Change”
A fan of Robin Thicke and Justin Timberlake are you? Do you find yourself saying, “yeah, but I wish they were Australian.” Problem solved. Welcome Daniel Merriweather to the stage. Daniel has a great R&B and soul vibe and knows how to partner up with industry heavyweights. His first full length album “Love and War” has already dropped in several countries. It will hit the United States in October 2009. In the meantime, our American readers can buy the import or enjoy the first single “Change” featuring Wale. This is a heavy rotation song for me right now.
